I thought the project overall went really well as i finished my work weeks before the deadline date. I wouldn't really say i found any part difficult, because i kept on top of my course work and made sure that i had my shoots done. There wasn't any major problems or barriers, however i found doing a shoot with an unprofessional model can be a great deal harder than with a professional. This is because when you ask and show them to pose in certain positions, it makes the model look uncomfortable and somehow awkward. To resolve this in future, i would try and hire a professional model to create the perfect photo. I also had a problem in my first shoot with no flash trigger on the camera, however after experimenting with different apertures i resolved it by making it look as good as possible without the correct equipment. To meet my initial intentions i shot my shoot both times in front of a white background to create high key lighting. I then dressed up the model in women's accessories and asked him to pose in certain positions that women are seen doing. My idea didn't change throughout the project. I kept with my project plan and although i experimented with different backdrops and women's accessories, i preferred to keep my original idea which i thought was better. The clothing changed slightly from shoot to shoot. For my second shoot i chose to go with a more colorful look on my model to help him stand out more. I would argue that the written work and Exhibition posters are the strongest part of my project. I'd like to say my photos were the strongest part, however i think there was a lot of improvements to be made if i was to do this shoot again. I chose my final images from a variety of photos that i took in the studio. I tried to choose a variety of different photos so that each and every photo would be different and unique. I think the message it portrays is to not judge people by the way they act, look or feel.

Poster 1

To create my simple idea i first chose a photo from one of my recent shoots that would be suitable and would look effective on a poster. However to challenge the perspectives, i used the bulge tool on Photoshop to widen up the frame of the photo to make it closer to that it would look better on the poster.

This was the bulge tool that i used, as you can see it creates almost an oval like shape that widens up the middle part of the frame making the top and bottom halves of the photo look squeezed.

My next step was to add effects to my photo to make the photo look out of the ordinary (again challenging the perspectives). After experimenting with every option possible to change the design of the photo, i came to the conclusion that the 'Plastic Wrap' effect looked the most effective out of all of the options. To get to these options, i went to 'Filter', then 'Filter Gallery'.

Next i changed the distance between each of the plastic wrap effects, this decided how far apart and how much detail was highlighted in the plastic wrap. Then i spread the marks apart so that it didn't make the photo look fake. 

The next step was to add all of the information that was needed to the poster. This included all of the names of the exhibitioners that are taking part in the exhibition. More information included Date and time of the event and where the exhibition is taking place.

My first step in creating this poster was to insert a crumbled up piece of paper which i thought would give it an oldy look effect. The next step once again was to choose a photo off one of my recent shoots that i thought would be successful on an exhibition poster. The next step was to add another layer so that i could add another two photos that would be included in the exhibition. However i chose to add effects to the two photos because i thought that the photos looked too much out of proportion being on an low opacity background. So i lowered the opacity to below 70% to give it a dimmed look.

My next step was to go on Fx which is down in the bottom right hand corner which has various amounts of effects to choose from. I then went on 'Stroke' to give the two photos a white border so that it would blend it more with the poster. 

The next step was select the size of the border and make any last changes to the border that i thought would make it look more effective without it being out of proportion to the rest of the poster.

 I then lastly selected different effects that would make my two photos look as best they could.

My first step in designing this photo was selecting a background for the poster. So i decided that a smokey background would be good as it looks like the model is engulfed in smoke. This challenges the perspectives because the shoot with the two models is done in a studio in front of high key lighting and having smoke in the studio is not something that happens everyday. 

My next step after putting all of the necessary information onto the poster was to add effects. This includes all of the exhibitors names, the photographers gallery logo and the date and time of the event. 

My next step was to just to add little effects to make the poster more successful and more professional. So i clicked on 'Fx' which was in the bottom right hand corner. then i went to drop shadow to put a shadow effect around all of the words.

Next i changed the distance between the words and increased the spread between each word so that it gave a repeated effect on the words.

The layout for the poster is fairly simple, with only a brief summary of the exhibition in small writing at the bottom of the poster. The poster is a mixture of color and black and white. Without the color drops that are coming out of the lens of the camera the poster would be black and white. Without the color, i would argue that the poster would be fairly drab, this is down to the fact that nothing would stand out to you and it wouldn't attract you to come and look at it if you saw it in the street or on a wall in a gallery. However with the bright colors on this poster is brings it to life and instead of nothing standing out, suddenly everything stands out. 

The design of the poster represents the theme of the exhibition as it is showcasing the work of local documentary photographers. This is shown in the poster with several different colors coming out of the lens of the camera which represents each of the different photographers. 

Typography

The weight of the font on this poster are not as bold and dramatic as they could be. I think they could of used more color when it comes to the font to make the poster stand out more. I also think that if the designer had used a bolder and bigger font, then the poster would have been more attractive to viewers. It is a successful poster because it is simple but effective, it gets the point of the exhibition out but without giving away to much information allowing the viewers to use there imagination into what they think the exhibition could include. I also like the fact that there is a brief informational content at the bottom of the poster. This is successful because it allows the viewer to get more involved with what the exhibition is about.

The layout for this poster is again very simple, but effective. By this i mean that because its all in green on a black background, it stands out and catches your eye. Green and black go well together so when they are put together it makes the poster look vibrant. There is merely no writing on this poster apart from the exhibition name, date and time. This poster is color based although there is a black background. If a less vibrant color was used, for example red or blue, then the poster wouldn't be as attractive to viewers. 

The design of the poster represents the theme of the exhibition as it is presenting an exhibition that is obviously all about green and i think with the green model at the left hand side of the poster, it opens up your imagination to possible solutions of what the exhibition is about.

Typography

By using a bold weight to the word 'Exhibition', it becomes a natural instinct to look straight at the word as you look at the poster for the first time because it stands out over all of the other words because it is bold, bigger and brighter than the other information on the poster. By having the time and date of the event in the bottom right hand corner in a smaller and thinner font it automatically highlights to the viewer that that information is secondary.

I felt as though the first shoot didn't go swell as i had hoped, mostly because i hadn't used a flash trigger with my photos. This caused various amount of shadows to be introduced into the frame that i didn't want. With this in mind, for this shoot i payed a lot more attention to the flash trigger and this time i managed to use one which was a bonus. I used 2 soft boxes, without the beauty dish because it would of been too much lighting. If i was to do this shoot again i would re-organize the soft boxes so that they were evenly spread. This is so that i wouldn't get one side that would be brighter than the other side which is what has happened.

My first shoot wasn't as good as i wanted it to be, this is merely down to the fact that there are shadows behind the model because we didn't have a flash trigger. I am happy with a couple of the facial expressions from the models, however there is a lot to improve and work on for next time. When i do this shoot again to improve it, i will plan more effectively and allow more time to do the shoot. I think the shoot looks better on a white background because it makes the model and the models clothes stand out with all of the color that is involved in the photo. Next time i plan to use a flash trigger to irradicate all of the shadows that are involved and so that the camera can capture all of the details of the models face. I also plan to use another soft box so that i can get as much light as possible, however without spoiling anything on the photograph. I also plan to use more accessories for the model to wear, the model is going to wear a bra to make him look more feminine. For my shoot i used an aperture of 1/80 and F8. However if i was to do this shoot again i would use a different, and more upgraded camera to make sure that the exposure on the model and on the backdrop was correct.

For my harris museum shoot i shot my photos in the middle of the town centre in Preston. There was a hall which had perfect lighting for my shoot so i couldn't miss the opportunity to take some photos. I knew all of the models in my photographs apart from one. 

I went up to the person and asked if i could take a picture of him without him changing anything that he wasn't doing before. This way the photo is natural and not deliberate posing. I saw a picture of the guy before id even taken it and the framing of the photo was almost perfect so i had to take a photo. For this photo i like the shallow depth of field and the colorful window tint at the end of the hall. I experimented with the color of this photo, i started off trying to change it to black and white to see which effect would look better in the photo. In conclusion i found that there was too much useful color in this photo to take all that away so i decided to keep it in color. 

Because of the lack of color in the original photo i thought that it would be better to turn this photo into black and white. Merely due to the fact that we were given a theme to shoot pictures of wonder and confidence whether it was full or lack of confidence. 

For this photo i decided to frame the photo differently. I chose to shoot this photo from being knelt down to get the lampshade in the photo. By having this lampshade at the top of the models head it almost gives the idea that he's in thought or has an idea. Although the framing of photos looks better when it is shot from straight on, in this case i think it gives it a wonder look. 

I like these photos because it shows good composition with the use of natural surroundings, i have shot all of these three photos in black and white because i think it sets the mood and again creates the sense of deep in thought and wonder.
